This Vegan Banana Bread with Walnuts and Chocolate Chips is an updated, “veganized” version of my banana bread recipe I posted here on the blog a while ago.
I decided to use half whole wheat flour and all purpose flour as well as white and brown sugar to change things up a bit. To make this banana bread vegan I replaced the butter with oil and applesauce and used Bob’s Red Mill Egg Replacer instead of eggs. I also substituted almond milk for regular milk, but feel free to use your favorite plant based milk.
I love a big slice of this Vegan Banana Bread with Walnuts and Chocolate Chips with a bit of butter (vegan) and a drizzle of maple syrup. Yummy!

Ingredients
1 C. all purpose flour
1 C. whole wheat flour
1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 C. vegetable oil (or 1/4 C. oil + 1/4 C. applesauce)
1/2 C. white sugar
1/2 C. brown sugar
Egg replacer equal to 2 eggs (I used Bobs Red Mill Egg Replacer)
2 Tbls. almond milk
1 tsp. vanilla
1 1/2 C. mashed ripe bananas (3–4 bananas)
1/2 C. chopped walnuts
1/2 C. chocolate chips
Instructions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Spray loaf pan with cooking spray or grease the pan your preferred method.
Combine flours, baking powder and baking soda in bowl and set aside.
In separate bowl, whisk together oil, applesauce (if using), sugars, almond milk and vanilla until well combined. Add mashed bananas and mix well.
Gently stir wet ingredients into dry ingredients (don’t over mix). Fold in nuts and chocolate chips.
Pour into greased loaf pan. Bake 50-60 minutes. (Start checking your loaf after 50 minutes by inserting toothpick in center. When done will it come out clean)
